Choral Methods
- In this course, our curriculum surrounded the literature and best practices for a secondary choral ensemble. Our discussions surrounded choral literature from multiple musical eras and highlighted the importance of diversifying the traditionally programmed choral repertoire.
Instrumental Methods
- In this course, our learning was structured through a combination of lecture materials and field work. This course discussed rehearsal strategies and the administrative tasks that coincide with an instrumental music position. Our culminating experience included a multi-week practicum and a full Comprehensive Musicianship through Performance (CMP) plan for learning a self-selected piece of instrumental repertoire.
Principles of Teaching Music
- In this course, students gain a further understanding of building curriculum with intentionality and detail through group and individual curriculum projects. Students gain a great deal of online teaching resources and are provided the opportunity to refine teaching strategies through a semester-long practicum.
Music for Exceptional Children
- In this course, students research and enact best practices for teaching music to students with exceptional needs in the classroom. Through guided discussions and student-led research, pre-service educators gain a fuller understanding of accommodations made in the music classroom. This course also highlights the legal rights and restrictions for students with disabilities.
